Labor Day Weekend Begins

without comments

It is nice that the weekend is here. It is an extra long weekend since it is labor day.

It is interesting to hear the history of labor day. It actually stems from several different historical events. At one point in time, the US was encouraged by some to move labor day to May 1, but besides breaking with tradition, it may have served to strengthen the socialist movement in the US.

Unlike most labor “celebrations” in the rest of the world, the US version of labor day has virtually no incidences of “social uprisings” or protests. In the United States, labor day is seen as a day of rest for most people. It also serves as a common mark for the beginning of the school year in many places. But, my school has already been in session for two weeks!
